Aman at Summer Palace, Beijing is housed in a series of pavilions dating back over a century, and provides guests with unparalleled access to four UNESCO World Heritage Sites including the Summer Palace, the Forbidden City, the Great Wall and the Temple of Heaven. The original complex was used by guests of the Summer Palace awaiting an audience with the Empress Dowager Cixi at the turn of the 20th century. Rooms and suites reflect traditional Chinese architecture and celebrate the courtyard style of the Summer Palace with a dignified ambience throughout. Whilst every modern comfort has been provided, the design embraces Imperial Chinese layouts, materials and fabrics. The Lobby is located in the resort’s elegant reception area and serves Continental breakfast, afternoon tea and light meals for lunch and dinner. Relaxed seating overlooks a traditional courtyard, shaded by indigenous trees.

The Aman Club Pavilion is located adjacent to the arrival pavilion of Aman at Summer Palace. Inside the Aman Club Pavilion is a Wine Cellar and Tasting Room featuring wines from all over the world.

The courtyard restaurants consist of two dining rooms on either side of a tranquil reflecting pond, each dedicated to a different cuisine. In Naoki, Chef Naoki Okumura has developed original French kaiseki fare which combines French technique with Japanese artistry. Chefs display their culinary flair in front of guests seated around a counter. Naoki is open for lunch and dinner. The Grill serves Western cuisine, specialising in grilled-to-order prime cuts of meat and fresh seafood. The Grill is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Both dining rooms are furnished with classic Ming Dynasty-inspired furniture.

The Chinese Restaurant consists of nine different rooms including three large rooms and six intimate spaces for private dining. Peking duck and several imperial dishes are served, along with traditional Cantonese cuisine for lunch and dinner.

The Reflection Pavilion features a peaceful terrace over-looking a lotus pond. A wide selection of premium cigars is available in the Cigar Room within the bar area. Beyond the pond is the Music Pavilion where musicians perform in the afternoon and evening on warm days. The Music Pavilion is also a popular location for romantic private dining.

Aman Spa and Fitness areas are located beneath the resort in a unique 5,000-square metre, double level, underground recreational facility. The Spa features a tranquil reception, nine self-contained double treatment rooms, a kimrobinson hair studio and a dedicated Pilates and yoga studio which is naturally lit through an extensive panel of skylights. The Pilates studio is fully-equipped with reformers and private classes can be arranged. The Spa menu features a wide range of health, well-being and beauty treatments. Other facilities include a 25 metre indoor lap pool, a 300-square metre sky-lit Gym with Technogym equipment (including Kinesis), two squash courts and a juice bar serving healthy fruit and vegetable drinks. The Library includes a wide selection of material on various subjects in several languages, from rare books on the Summer Palace to historic and photographic works on China and the Asian region. Situated on 14 hectares to the west of West Lake on the outskirts of Hangzhou, the resort is comprised of 47 dwellings surrounded by tea fields, natural forests and lush groves of bamboo. Just a 20-minute drive from the city centre, Amanfayun is the ideal location from which to explore the region’s ancient Buddhist temples, botanical gardens, vast wetland areas, countless pagodas and Hangzhou’s famous silk and shopping streets. The resort features the original village layout, with a 600-metre main thoroughfare, the Fayun Pathway.

fayun place
Located in the centre of the property is the most commanding of the original structures. Two stately courtyard houses dating back to the 1800s have been carefully linked to become the resort’s main meeting area. Known as Fayun Place, it is only accessible to guests of Amanfayun. The lower level with its soaring ceilings and refined lattice work houses the property’s guest assistants, adept at introducing Hangzhou’s many attractions. Also on the lower floor is a lounging area where light traditional snacks and tea are served. The upper level features a Cigar Room and informal sitting and reading rooms.

library
The Library features an extensive array of books and documentary DVDs (both in Chinese and English) focusing on the history and culture of China. Amanfayun organises informative talks and presentations on topics ranging from Buddhism and Chinese art, to regional cultural practices, tea rituals, Traditional Chinese Medicine and any number of diverse subjects. In addition there are occasions when the property hosts artists and musicians.

the restaurant
The Restaurant is tucked away behind a grove of evergreens and offers picturesque views. This is the only outlet which serves Western cuisine. The menu features a number of classic international dishes, in essence offering guests finely-crafted comfort food. The Restaurant also houses the Bar which is suitable for informal dining throughout the day as well as pre- or post-dinner drinks.

The Meeting Room is fully equipped with the latest audio visual equipment. A striking feature of the facility is the sweeping view of the forest surrounding the village. Taking full advantage of the view are two external terraces that can be used for refreshments during meeting breaks. The Meeting Room and terraces are also ideal for private cocktail parties.

The Boutique carries a handpicked selection of the finest antiques, artefacts, jewellery and crafts available in China. Amanfayun’s Aman Spa consists of five separate buildings surrounded by bamboo groves, tea bushes and Magnolia trees. Massage and body treatments draw from traditional Chinese massage and reflexology, as well as from ancient Asian healing therapies.
