AmanjiwoAman’s Temples & Reefs Journey

East of Bali, the island chain of Nusa Tenggara stretches some 1,300 kilometres from Lombok to Timor. Offering some of the best snorkelling and scuba diving sites in Indonesia, the Flores Sea is home to many varieties of coral and a rich array of marine life. Discover the diversity of the Indonesian archipelago with an exploration of Moyo Island’s pristine marine environment.

To Bali’s West lies Java, the land of legends. The arts of Indonesia were generated in and bloomed from Central Java. Here the dance and music schools blossomed; great palaces and impressive religious monuments from Hindu, Buddhist and Islamic faiths were built.

Moyo Island is located at the western end of the Nusa Tenggara chain with Bali as its international gateway. Three complimentary activities may be chosen from Amanwana’s specially tailored list for this journey: an excursion by speed boat and jeep into the heart of Moyo Island to the waterfalls and its pools; a scuba diving experience; a romantic picnic lunch on a secluded beach; a BBQ dinner on the beach with a campfire; a sunset cruise with drinks and canapés; traditional bottom fishing.

AmanwanaSet on the nature reserve of Moyo Island, 15 kilometres north-west of Sumbawa, Amanwana (‘peaceful forest’) is a nature camp with 20 air-conditioned, hardwood floor luxury tents set in a tropical forest overlooking the crystal clear waters of the Flores Sea. A professional dive centre provides for the needs of divers of all levels and a fleet of vessels offers everything from sports fishing to sunset cruises and picnic drop-offs on private beaches.

Amanjiwo is accessible from Central Java’s international gateways of Solo and Yogyakarta. Three complimentary activities may be chosen from Amanjiwo’s specially tailored list for this journey: a discovery of the secrets of Borobudur, the world’s largest Buddhist monument; a relaxing Javanese massage or cream bath; a visit to the royal city of Yogyakarta to experience temples built in the 9th century; practise semadi, a silent Javanese meditation; a morning or afternoon hike through the rice fields of Selogriyo; an exploration of hidden temples in the surrounding hills.

Overlooking Borobudur, the world’s largest Buddhist sanctuary, Amanjiwo (‘peaceful soul’) is a 36-suite resort lying within a natural amphitheatre. The Menoreh Hills rise behind and volcanoes grace the horizon. Amanjiwo provides the opportunity to explore the cultural heartland and artistic heritage of Central Java.
